Before going into further details, please bear in mind that Medical Travel Insurance is specifically designed for people who are travelling to undergo a surgical procedure. Medical Travel Insurance combines coverage for the typical risks associated with travel and provides you with additional protection related to the medical procedure that you will receive.
You will be covered for risks relating to your international travel such as personal accident, sudden injury or sickness, flight delay, baggage loss/damage or delay, trip cancellation or curtailment, or personal liability. You are also given protection against unexpected occurences relating to your planned medical procedure.
- Who can purchase a Medical Travel Insurance policy?
- The policy is designed for people who will travel to Thailand for a medical treatment. So if you have committed to such a trip, you can buy Medical Travel Insurance to protect yourself from risks during your travel as well as unexpected occurrences relating to your planned medical procedure.
- How can I purchase Medical Travel Insurance?

The agent who arranges the trip to Thailand for you can facilitate your purchase of the Medical Travel Insurance policy. Just tell the agent your request. Once the premium has been paid, you will receive hard copies of the Certificate of Insurance and Policy Wording from the agent or they will be sent to your email account. At the same time, the details of your insurance policy will be transmitted to our database immediately, and cover will begin right away!

- Is there an age limit to purchase Medical Travel Insurance?
- There is no age restriction for buying the Travel Insurance policy for yourself and your accompanying family or friends. However, please refer to the Terms and Conditions of the policy for detailed benefits in respect of children aged under 16 years or adults aged over 75 years. Coverage for the medical procedure is limited to 59 years of age.
- Can I purchase only one part of Medical Travel Insurance coverage, i.e. either the Medical Insurance or the Travel Insurance?

Yes, you can. Please explain your request to the agent who is arranging your trip to Thailand. The agent will help you to purchase the required coverage: either Travel Insurance only, or Medical Insurance only. If you purchase online via this website, please select "Travel Insurance only" or "Medical Insurance only" option within the "Get Covered" page.
However, if you are not covered under any existing Travel Insurance policy or Medical Insurance policy, we strongly recommend that you purchase the full coverage offered by the Medical Travel Insurance policy. Together, the Travel Insurance and the Medical Insurance will offer you the most comprehensive protection against risks whilst travelling overseas and during your overseas medical procedure.

- Can a Medical Insurance policy be issued after the trip has already begun?
- Yes. Even though you have commenced your trip, if your scheduled medical treatment has not yet taken place, you can still purchase the Medical Insurance.
- Can a Travel Insurance policy be issued after the trip has already begun?
- No. Our Travel Insurance coverage is designed to be taken out prior to your commencing travel. The intention of the Travel Insurance policy is to provide cover from the moment you leave your home in your country of residence, until you return back home.
- Can more than ONE policy be issued for the same trip?
- Each traveller is entitled to ONE policy only. This policy may include multiple people, but each individual is to be insured by no more than ONE policy during their trip.
- Is my Medical Travel Insurance automatically cancelled if I cancel my travel arrangements?
No. You have to initiate the cancellation of your Medical Travel Insurance yourself. Once the policy is cancelled you will receive a full refund of premium, as long as you have not already departed on your trip and filed a claim. If you wish to cancel the policy, please contact the agent who has issued the Medical Travel Insurance policy for you. In case you purchased the policy online via this website, please contact us by email at contact@medicaltravelinsurance.co to request for a cancellation.
However, if you do have to cancel your trip, make sure you review your Certificate of Insurance and policy wording because your travel insurance policy provides cancellation protection if you have to cancel your trip due to certain reasons.
- If I can't make the trip, can I cancel my Medical Travel Insurance?

Yes, you can. Please contact the agent who issued the Medical Travel Insurance policy for you. In case you purchased the policy online, please contact us by email at contact@medicaltravelinsurance.co.
You can cancel your Medical Travel Insurance and receive a full refund of premium, as long as you do not intend to file any claim under the policy.

- If I have already departed on my trip and after consultation with doctor(s) I find out that I cannot undergo the planned medical treatment or I am not elligible for Medical Insurance, can I get my Medical Travel Insurance premium refunded?
- Yes, you will get a partial refund of the Medical Travel Insurance premium. The premium of Medical Insurance, which is stated in your Certificate of Insurance, will be returned in full to you. The Travel Insurance premium will not be refunded to you since you have already commenced your trip and coverage has already started. Please contact the agent who issued the policy for you to get the partial premium refund. In case you purchased the policy online via this website, please contact us by email at contact@medicaltravelinsurance.co to get a refund.
- If the trip ends earlier than originally planned, will a partial refund of Travel Insurance premium be given?
- Sorry, but no. Once your trip commences, we are unable to refund any part of the Travel Insurance premium.
- When does the Medical Travel Insurance Policy commence and end?
- Medical Travel Insurance has two parts of coverage with different commencement dates and ending dates as per the following:

Depending on circumstances, the answer can be different as the following:-
(a) Travel Insurance
The trip cancellation cover commences from the date you purchase your policy and will end when you start your trip.
The remaining cover begins at 12:00am on your Effective Date and will end at 11:59pm on your Expiry Date, or when you return to your Home, or 30 days after the policy Effective Date, whichever date is earlier.
The Effective Date of the policy is actually your departure date, and the Expiry Date of the policy is your return date, which you declare when you purchase the policy.
(b) Medical Insurance
The cover begins from the date your scheduled medical treatment takes place and will end as follows:- - 14 days after your Eligible Scheduled Medical Treatment in case of a Cardiopulmonary-Related event;
- - 14 days after your release in case of a Surgery-Related event;
- - 3 hours after your Eligible Scheduled Medical Treatment in case of an Anesthesia-Related event;
- - 14 days after release from hospital in case of a Post-Operative event.

(Scenario a) Your stay in hospital is longer than originally estimated, because you contracted a secondary infection whilst still admitted. You incur some extra charges related to the extra time that you spent in hospital. The added expenses as a result of this complication are covered up to the Sum Insured.
(Scenario b) Your stay in hospital is longer than originally estimated, because you recover at a slower rate than was anticipated. You incur some extra charges related to the extra time that you spent in hospital, but this is not deemed to be a complication and is therefore not covered.

- What is a 'Pre-existing Medical Condition'? Is it covered under the policy?
- A 'pre-existing medical condition' is any condition that requires ongoing treatment, medication or precautionary advice. A full definition is provided in the Policy Wording.
The Medical Insurance policy excludes pre-existing conditions linked to a cardiovascular disease. Other pre-existing conditions are not automatically covered under the Medical Insurance policy.
You have to inform us of your pre-existing condition and we have to confirm in writing that we accept this condition to make sure it will not be excluded under your coverage.Some examples for your reference:-
Example 2: Pre-existing Condition Contributing to an Acute Event
Example 1: Pre-existing Condition Causing Longer Stay in Hospital
Your stay in hospital is longer than expected because you suffered a heart attack. If you have no past history of cardiac disease, the added expenses as a result of this complication are covered up to the Sum Insured.
If you have a history which includes angina, heart attacks, or previous coronary artery stenting or bypass surgery, this complication would be deemed an exacerbation of a cardiovascular pre-existing medical condition and therefore not covered.
At the end of your procedure you develop acute respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive airways disease and then require admission to the intensive care unit for ongoing treatment.
- (a) If you have no history of documented chronic obstructive airways disease or heart disease (including all forms of ischaemic heart and valvular heart disease) the extra costs will be covered up to the Sum Insured.
- (b) If you have a history of chronic obstructive airways disease, these extra costs will not be covered under the Medical Travel Insurance policy unless you have informed us of it prior to taking out the insurance and we have confirmed in writing that we have accepted this condition.

- How can Medical Travel Insurance cover be postponed should the travel dates be delayed?

If you wish to have the policy postponement, please notify the agent who issued the policy for you immediately. In order for the postponement to be granted, your request must be received and acknowledged by the agent before the original planned departure date.
Alternatively, please contact us by email at contact@medicaltravelinsurance.co immediately, Your request must be sent to and acknowledged by us prior to your initial departure date.
As long as no claim has been submitted, a new policy certificate based on your revised travel details will be issued to you.

- If my Scheduled Medical Treatment Date is changed, can I change the Medical Travel Insurance cover period?
- Yes. Please notify the agent who issued the Medical Travel Insurance policy for you immediately. Alternatively, please contact us by email at contact@medicaltravelinsurance.co. In order for the change to be granted, your request must be acknowledged by the agent or by us before the new scheduled medical treatment date or the original scheduled medical treatment date, whichever is earlier. As long as no claim has been submitted, a new policy certificate based on your revised medical treatment schedule will be issued to you.
- What happens if I fall ill or suffer an accident during the journey?
- The Medical Travel Insurance policy entitles the person to medical assistance and cover for the expenses incurred during the subsequent medical treatment. Please call us immediately at +66-2 305 4435 should you have a medical problem during your journey.
You are free to choose your medical advisor or an approved medical advisor can be appointed by us.

- If I become ill or injured while in Thailand but did not receive any on-location medical treatment, can I do so once I am back in my home country?
- No. Your policy's coverage ends when you return to your home in your home country. If you have an accident or become ill while in Thailand, we recommend that you seek medical attention immediately and to contact us as soon as possible, so that we can assist you.
- What happens if evacuation or repatriation is required following an injury?
- We will transfer you to the nearest suitable hospital to treat your injury. Our cover ends upon your safe repatriation to your home in your Home Country or to the nearest suitable hospital to your usual place of residence in your home country.
